Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process
The ASEAN Social Development Journal (ASDAL) implements a rigorous and transparent peer review system to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of all published manuscripts. The journal adheres to international standards of scholarly publishing and follows a structured double-blind peer review process.
- Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, all manuscripts undergo a preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Office and the Editor-in-Chief to determine:
- Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope
- Compliance with submission guidelines and formatting standards
- Originality and academic contribution
- Similarity index assessment using plagiarism detection software
Manuscripts that fail to meet basic quality or ethical standards may be rejected at this stage without external review (desk rejection).
- Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area.
The journal applies a double-blind review process, whereby:
- The identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers
- The identities of the reviewers are concealed from the authors
This approach ensures impartiality, objectivity, and fairness in the evaluation process.
- Review Criteria
Reviewers are requested to assess manuscripts based on the following criteria:
- Originality and novelty of the research
- Theoretical and methodological rigor
- Clarity of research objectives and research questions
- Appropriateness of data analysis and interpretation
- Contribution to the field of social development and related disciplines
- Structure, coherence, and academic writing quality
- Adequacy and relevance of references
Reviewers provide detailed comments and recommendations under one of the following categories:
- Accept without revision
- Minor revisions required
- Major revisions required
- Reject
- Revision Process
Where revisions are requested, authors are required to submit:
- A revised manuscript
- A detailed response letter addressing each reviewer’s comment
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.
- Final Decision
The final decision regarding publication rests with the Editor-in-Chief, based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the overall scholarly merit of the manuscript.
The journal reserves the right to reject manuscripts at any stage if ethical concerns, data fabrication, plagiarism, or other forms of academic misconduct are identified.
- Ethical Standards
The journal upholds the principles of publication ethics and academic integrity in accordance with international best practices. All parties involved in the publication process—authors, reviewers, and editors—are expected to adhere to ethical standards of research and publication conduct.
